Welcome to our Foundation Stage 2015/2016
The Reception class at St. Mary’s follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and Guidance.
Our team provide a stimulating environment where children can feel safe to explore, investigate and learn new skills. We pride ourselves in promoting learning and developing independence through play.
The children experience a range of activities: some which they can access independently and others with adult support. Children can free flow indoors or out, (whatever the weather!) and all of our areas are enhanced daily.
When the children are settled in the Reception class, they are ready to take part in more structured sessions which will enhance their learning, in particular, their Literacy and Numeracy skills. There is a big focus on Letters and Sounds throughout the year.
Assessment is carried out through snap shots and planned observations of the children by all members of the staff in the Foundation Stage. These observations are available for parents to view at all times in their child’s ‘Learning Journey’.
We welcome comments from our parents which give an insight into what their child may like, or may do at home, as this often provides us with a starting point for activities which may be familiar to the children. We encourage a strong home – school link and we have an open door policy each morning if a parent needs to see us before handover.
The Foundation Stage is the basis upon which your child’s future learning rests: we aim to ensure that children moving up from us into school are confident, happy learners, but most importantly, WE HAVE FUN!
